What is the CHA?

The Centre for Healthy Ageing (CHA) is a virtual research centre which connects research groups across the Mainz University campus.

These groups meet at common events, work on joint research projects and coordinate different programmes together.

What is the CHA doing?

We want to promote healthy ageing and prevent and treat age-related diseases. To achieve this, basic ageing researchers are working closely with clinical researchers (bench-to-bedside).

This facilitates translational research: scientific discoveries from the lab can directly lead to more effective prevention of, and better treatments for age-related diseases.

Who is part of the CHA?

Scientific Directors: Prof. Christof Niehrs (IMB) & Prof. Peter Baumann (IMB/JGU) & vacant

Coordination of the CHA: Scientific Management Team of IMB

All partners and the initiatives they are driving fill the CHA with life.

What you can learn on this website

At the CHA, we want to help everyone reach old age in good health.

Our researchers study the basic processes that go wrong during ageing. They work to improve prevention and therapies for age-related diseases. This translational research helps to advance healthy ageing strategies that are beneficial for everyone.

Our information service on ageing is an excellent resource for interested visitors. Here, we collect scientifically correct texts and videos on the basics of ageing, as well as interviews with some of our scientists. We also shed light on popular ageing myths and present interesting and surprising facts about ageing.
