Philip Wenzel (Department of Cardiology, UMC) is interested in elucidating the mechanisms of thrombo-inflammation and cardiovascular (mal)adaptation and identifying therapeutic targets for regeneration. These areas are important for ageing research because vascular fitness is a major requirement for healthy ageing.

Daniela Kramer (Department of Dermatology, UMC) focuses on the regulation of proinflammatory gene expression in autoinflammatory diseases, infections and cancer, which contribute to multimorbidity in ageing.

Kristina Endres (Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, UMC) conducts research in the field of healthy cognitive ageing and Alzheimer's dementia. Her work focuses on the importance of the gut microbiome and therapeutic interventions in preclinical animal models and clinical trials.

The primary research focus of Michael Kühn (Department of Hematology/Oncology, UMC) is on biological processes that control self-renewal programmes in healthy and malignant haematopoietic stem cells. He is particularly interested in the epigenetic control mechanisms of age-related decline and the development of mechanism-based therapies with reduced side effects to restore normal haematopoiesis in old age.
